Anthropic ships Claude Sonnet 5, a same-price upgrade to Sonnet 4.6
A drop-in replacement for Sonnet 4.6 at the same price, with its biggest gains in coding and agentic work, adaptive thinking on by default, and a 1M-token context window.
Claude Sonnet 5 replaces Sonnet 4.6 at the same price, with its largest gains in coding and agentic work. The defaults shift: adaptive thinking is on unless you turn it off, manual extended thinking and non-default sampling parameters now return errors, and a new tokenizer produces about 30% more tokens for the same text — so token budgets are worth rechecking before migrating. It is also the first Sonnet-tier model with real-time cybersecurity safeguards, and it ships through the Claude API, AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry.
